Taproom Assistant Manager

About the Position:
The Taproom Assistant Manager will report directly to the Taproom Manager and be an integral part of our event management team. He or she will be responsible for helping with all aspects of the brewery’s bartending, taproom sales, private event sales, and hospitality operations — including but not limited to answering inbound sales calls for the taproom, taproom inventory management, taproom hospitality management, bar personnel management, hospitality sales and fulfillment, taproom and brewery rentals, brewery events, taproom beer operations, vendor management and all related taproom activities. The Assistant Manager is a primary member of our team, meaning he/she will be in a very visible position and participate in brewery tours, festivals, sales promotions, and other outside activities.

The Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate will have at least two years of applicable brewery, taproom or bar experience and a passion for the brewing industry. He or she will have a strong background in bar sales, taproom/bar operations, beer quality assurance programs, inventory management, labor management, event planning, social media management, and applicable tax reporting processes. The ideal candidate will have a passion for solving problems and creating value for the company and its customers.

Job Purpose:
The Assistant Manager’s primary responsibility will be to assist in running the brewery’s inside sales effort and taproom operations as a profit center, including all sales, marketing, promotions, and events. This is a hands-on position — requiring the Assistant Manager to personally work in the taproom and at brewery events — sometimes with little or no supervision! The Assistant Manager will assist in scheduling/managing personnel working in the taproom during normal hours, after hours and at all brewery events.

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Independent bar shifts are required
  • Answer and manage inbound sales calls.
  • Manage inventory for taproom sales — including beer, merchandise, and supplies.
  • Assist in scheduling and managing volunteers to work the taproom during normal hours, after hours and at all brewery events.
  • Assist in scheduling and managing all taproom vendors — including food trucks, musicians, and all other vendors related to taproom activities.
  • Assist in scheduling and managing all brewery tour and open house operations — Saturday open house management and participation is required.
  • Assist in cost control and profitability for all taproom activities and events.
  • Rigorously maintain draft systems in the taproom.
  • Rigorously maintain cleanliness of the taproom, beer garden, and related areas.
  • Assist in managing all online sales, fulfillment, inventory, and ordering.
  • Assist in managing front house POS operations.
  • Assist in managing cleanliness, appearance, and merchandising in the taproom, beer garden, and surrounding exterior areas.
  • Field and manage customer, media and press inquiries.
  • Assist in managing on-site events, private parties and inside beer dinners.
  • Assist in managing all social media regarding internal brewery events and taproom activities.
  • Manage all cash transactions, deposits and sales reports for internal operations.
  • Other duties include: Manage effluent processing as it relates to the above operations, cleaning and organizing standards, equipment maintenance, assist with Daily Record of Activities, festival participation, brewery representation at appropriate events. Enter appropriate data into the CRM and ERP software systems.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • A minimum of two years experience working in a brewery taproom or craft bar is required.
  • Strong understanding of craft beer is required
  • TABC Certification is required
  • Experience in event planning or coordinating strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of draft systems, including CO2 and Nitrogen gas is preferred
  • Previous brewery experience preferred
  • Cicerone certification preferred
  • Available to work flexible schedules including weekend and night shifts
  • Possess an entrepreneurial spirit and passion for beer
  • Strong work ethic
  • The ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking capabilities, strong communication skills; verbal, listening and written
  • Ability to work on your feet; standing and/or walking 8-10 hours a day
  • Ability to lift and/or carry up to 55 pounds
  • Ability to maneuver a keg (up to 165 lbs)
  • Work on wet floors and with wet equipment
  • Maintain a sanitary environment
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office
